The history of SEO dates back to around the middle of the 1990's when search engines were first classifying web pages. Many webmasters had to submit the Uniform Resource Locator (URL), or website address manually to those search engines that they wished to appear within. In return for doing this, they found the information contained on this website (usually it's homepage) had become indexed and therefore searchable.

Due to the mass of black hat techniques (techniques that were used to get higher search rankings in an unethical manner) being practised for websites to appear above that of their competition, there is reason to believe that the term SEO was introduced (in around 1997). Of course, from this process came the industries that were able to figure techniques to successfully get their pages ranking, unknown to some of them using illegitimate techniques.

Professionals were abusing the control of the keyword density and therefore search engines had to enforce punishments for those that were manipulating the rankings. This meant only listing those that were relevant to a search, not just crammed full of keywords, also by "sandboxing" those websites that were not complying with rules and regulations (temporarily reducing the page rank of new domains, placing them into what is referred to as its "sandbox", in an effort to counter the ways that search engine optimizers attempt to manipulate page rankings). This stopped SEO "cheats" creating lots of inbound links to a new web site from other web sites that they owned. Since search engines have been used so widely, standards have had to change along with developments within technology.

A lot of people don't believe I can do a "proper" job for just £50 when many SEO companies are charging 10 or even 100 times more than this, but I stick to a few basic rules, use tried and tested methods, and also offer a FREE Website Survey before I take any orders where I let you know what you can do yourself to improve your rankings, and then what I can do in addition to this.
